How to install Preseria on macOS and Windows¶
Installation steps¶
- Download the macOS (.dmg) or the Windows (.exe) installer.
- Run the installer and follow the instructions.
- (Windows Only, Optional): If you want to use the Presenter Mode to present files seamlessly, make sure Office PowerPoint and Adobe Reader is installed on your Windows computer.
System requirements¶
Software¶
- Windows 10 or 11 - Win 11 is recommended as Windows 10's end of life (EOL) is October 14, 2025
- Required for Presenter Mode:
- Office PowerPoint (for viewing .ppt, .pptx, etc.)
- Adobe Reader (for viewing .pdf)
- Required for Presenter Mode:
- Mac OS 13 Ventura or newer - We recommend running the latest version of MacOS
Presenter Mode on Windows
Preseria in Presenter Mode (where it integrates tightly with Office and automates launching and switching between PowerPoints, PDFs and videos) will work with all recent versions of Office, including Office 2019, but we recommend using the latest and continually updated Office 365 (also known as Microsoft 365).
Recommended Hardware¶
The Preseria desktop app itself does not have specific minimal or recommended hardware requirements and is low on resource consumption, but for a smooth experience and efficient presentation file switches and as a general rule of thumb we recommend using presentation computers with modern and fast hardware (CPU & RAM) and enough memory to handle the presentation files in the gigabytes range.
- CPU: 11th Gen Intel Core i5, i7 or newer processor.
- Memory: 16 GB DDR4 2133 Mhz or faster RAM.
- Network: Gigabit or faster Ethernet (wired) for reliable and high speed file transfers.
Info
Our Recommended Hardware list is purely based on experience from using Preseria on various Windows laptops and roughly measuring the time it takes to open, close and switch between typical presentation media (PowerPoints, PDFs, Videos) in FullHD (1920x1080). Your actual system requirements fully depends on what kind of presentation media you expect to display. Decoding 4K video is more processor and resource intensive than showing still image slides etc.
Program Data Location¶
Windows: Preseria Windows program data is stored with your home profile in C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\com.preseria.preseriaAir
macOS: Preseria macOS program data is stored in two locations:
/Users/{user}/Library/Application Support/com.preseria.preseriaAir
/Users/{user}/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/com.preseria.preseriaAir
Upgrading Preseria on macOS
If you’ve previously installed Preseria for macOS you might have to delete the program data directories for the new version to function. In case you get an error telling you that the Encrypted Local Storage can’t be opened after launching Preseria, then delete the folders above and restart Preseria.
Presentation Files Location¶
Windows: Downloaded conferences (and their presentations) are by default stored in your documents folder under "Preseria": C:\Users\{user}\Documents\Preseria
macOS: Downloaded conferences (and their presentations) are stored in your documents folder under /Users/{user}/Documents/Preseria
Notes¶
Keynote (.key) files on Windows¶
There's no viewer for Apple Keynote files available on the Windows Operating System, and likely never will be. You should let the presenters know (in the Email Invitation they receive from you) which file formats you'll accept.
Differences between the Windows and macOS version¶
The macOS version of the Preseria client currently only supports the simplified "Technician Mode", which means you'll be able to download and synchronize presentation files, as well as view the Sessions and see which files belongs to which presenters, but you'll not get the "seamless transition" offered by the "Presenter Mode" available on the Windows platform.
